Questions?
Here are some of the most common questions we get about working together. If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to reach out or schedule a free consultation call.
-
Our private-pay rates reflect clinician training and expertise, and the time we invest in your care. You’ll receive your therapist’s exact fee before scheduling. Current ranges:
Individual therapy (50 min): $160–$250
Couples therapy (50 min): $180–$300
We also offer extended sessions for couples therapy and EMDR upon request.
Contact us for more details and to see what might be most supportive for you.

Yes, limited sliding-scale spots are available based on financial need and therapist availability. If a spot isn’t open right now, we can add you to a waitlist or provide referrals.

In order to provide the kind of care we believe is most effective, and that you deserve, we have chosen to remain a private-pay practice. Upon request, your therapist can provide you with a monthly superbill, which you can use to submit a claim for reimbursement through your insurance. Many clients use out-of-network benefits to offset costs, but reimbursement options and rates are dependent on your policy.
We recommend asking your insurance company the following questions to find out about your out-of-network benefits:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my deductible for out-of-network mental health benefits?
What are the reimbursement rates for CPT codes – 90837 (ongoing individual therapy) or 90847 (ongoing couples therapy)?
Do you reimburse for sessions with therapists under supervision, such as Associate Clinical Social Workers (ACSWs) and Associate Marriage & Family Therapists (AMFTs)?
-
Yes. HSA/FSA cards are typically accepted for therapy.

At this time, we serve clients located in California. If you travel or move, talk with your therapist; licensing laws vary by state.

LMFTs (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists) and LCSWs (Licensed Clinical Social Workers) are master's-level clinicians trained in psychotherapy. Psychologists hold doctoral degrees and are also trained in psychological testing. For most therapy needs, the clinician's specialization, training, and fit matter more than the specific license type. All therapists at Mother Nurture are licensed or supervised associates working toward licensure.
-

Book a free 15-minute phone consultation. Share what’s going on and your goals for therapy.
Thoughtful matching. Our Care Coordinator matches you with a therapist based on fit (style, specialty, schedule, location). We’ll send you paperwork to fill out electronically prior to your intake appointment.
First session. We’ll explore your story, clarify what feels urgent, and collaborate on a plan for what therapy will look like together. You’ll leave with a sense of next steps, frequency, and practical tools to support you between sessions.
-
Weekly sessions help build momentum and safety at the start. As therapy progresses, we may shift to every other week. We also offer extended sessions for EMDR/couples and short-term intensives when appropriate.
-
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. We may recommend 75–90 minutes for deeper trauma work, EMDR, or couples sessions when it supports your goals.
-
How long you’re in therapy depends on your individual needs and goals, and there’s no one “right” time frame. Some clients feel meaningful relief within 6–12 sessions; others choose longer-term work to heal deeper patterns.
-
We know life happens, and we also reserve your session time just for you. We kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice to avoid the late-cancel fee (equal to your session fee).
-
We are not a 24/7 crisis center and do not monitor messages after hours. Our admin team and your therapist will review messages during business hours and respond as soon as they’re able, and always within 24 hours.
-
If you or someone you love is in immediate danger or having a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
For urgent mental health support in the U.S., call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) for 24/7 help. You can also contact your local crisis line. After you’re safe, you can leave us a message and we’ll follow up during business hours. -
Look for specialization that matches what you're navigating, not just a generalist. Licensing matters (LMFT, LCSW, PhD), as does whether the therapist has post-graduate training in your area of need. Fit is also real: the research consistently shows the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of outcome. A free consultation is the best way to get a sense of both.
-
Under the No Surprises Act, clients who self-pay are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs. We will provide one upon scheduling or request. Your actual costs may vary based on your chosen frequency, length of sessions, and any extended or intensive sessions.
