When Your Mind Won’t Stop Racing
Anxiety can be hard to tackle, even when you recognize it. It shows up as the 2 a.m. list that won't stop growing, the tight chest before a meeting, the need to check one more time, or the sense that if you let your guard down, something will go wrong. For some people it feels like it’s been with them all their lives. For others it arrives with a pregnancy, a diagnosis, a loss, or a baby who finally sleeps while you lie awake listening.
At Mother Nurture Therapy Group, we see anxiety as information, not a flaw. It often starts as a way of protecting yourself that made sense at the time. Therapy here is a place to understand what your anxiety is trying to protect, and to build a life where worry isn't making every decision.
Anxiety looks different for everyone.
You might notice
Racing thoughts or worry that's hard to turn off
Trouble falling or staying asleep, even when you have the chance
Tension, a tight chest, stomach upset, or a racing heart
Scary, unwanted thoughts that feel out of character
Checking, reassurance seeking, or avoiding certain situations
Irritability or a short fuse with the people you love
Perfectionism and fear of getting it wrong
Feeling on edge, even when things are going well
Anxiety can make your world feel smaller. Therapy can help you feel calmer in your body and more at ease in your own life.
how we can help
We offer warm, practical support for anxious minds and tired bodies.
Anxiety therapy works on two levels: what you need to get through this week, and why your mind learned to stay on high alert in the first place.
We start with what's happening in your body. You'll learn simple, body-based ways to calm down when anxiety spikes, and CBT-informed tools to catch anxious thoughts before they snowball. For intrusive thoughts and OCD, we offer Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the most well-studied treatment for unwanted thoughts and compulsions.
Then we look deeper. Using attachment-based and psychodynamic therapy, we get curious about where your anxiety comes from: family patterns, earlier experiences, and the pressures of the roles you carry now. When anxiety is tied to a difficult birth, a loss, or another painful experience, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help the memory feel less overwhelming. And when anxiety is straining your relationship, we can bring your partner in so you can face it as a team.
Therapy for anxiety can help you
Calm racing thoughts and physical tension
Sleep more easily when you have the chance to rest
Respond to intrusive thoughts without panic or shame
Check, avoid, and seek reassurance less often
Make decisions with more confidence and less second-guessing
Ease perfectionism and quiet your inner critic
Feel more present with your partner, kids, and friends
Understand where your anxiety comes from

FAQs
-
We combine practical tools with deeper work. You'll learn ways to calm your body and catch anxious thoughts before they snowball, and over time we'll explore where your anxiety comes from so the changes last. Depending on what you need, that can include CBT-informed strategies, ERP for intrusive thoughts and OCD, EMDR, and attachment-based therapy.
-
Postpartum anxiety often centers on the baby: their health, their safety, and whether you're doing it right. It can come with physical symptoms, trouble sleeping even when the baby sleeps, and difficulty letting others help. It's common and very treatable, and you don't have to have a history of anxiety to experience it.
-
Unwanted, frightening thoughts are very common in pregnancy and postpartum, and having them doesn't mean you want to act on them. They're often a sign of anxiety or perinatal OCD, and therapy can help them feel less scary and show up less often. If you ever feel you might act on a thought to harm yourself or your baby, call or text 988 or go to the nearest emergency room.
